Default Motor compartment, wheel well area

I just bought a 1983 Dodge D150, 2wd, shortbox, with a lot of aftermarket parts like edelbrock, msn, etc. etc.

It looks like it will be a fun truck to play with. But I noticed something about it that was different from my 1990 I had a few years ago. When looking at the motor with the hood open, I noticed I could easily see the front end components. Why is that? I haven't picked the truck up yet, so can't look for a few more days.

Is it missing something? Like wheel wells? Or wheel well covers, or what is suppossed to be there, so you don't see those parts. I'm worried even that rocks and stuff will come up into the motor when driving. Or am I worried about nothing and just my imagination?

There likely used to be some covers that just disintegrated. My 76 has some covers that I wish weren't there, you likely don't have them.
