Bare Metal Clear Coat
So, I'm in the middle of most likely a life-time project of "restoring" my '74 D100. It's not a true restoration, as I will be doing some modifications and such, but that's besides the point.
I'm taking the surface rust off of the hood, and in doing so have uncovered multiple colors it has been through the years. I think it look completely awesome with it halfway sanded down, with some spots of bare metal.
Now to my question, does anybody have any experience with just clear coating a surface like this. I would need something in a can, as my DIY garage is lacking any sort of painting equipment. I just want to make sure it doesnt continue to rust again. I want to preserve whats there, and just not allow it to get worse.
If you guys have any experience with this let me know, I'm not sure how to do this the right way.

Some guy wired wheeled his dif cover to bare metal and then just clear coated it. Always wondered myself how that would stand up to the elements. I cant remember who it was but maybe he will pop it and let us know if it has held up.
