I went to open the hood and the inside cable hood relese broke. Can someone please tell how I can open the hood to put a new cable in? I surely would appreciate it. My truck is a 1987 Dodge Ram 4X4.

Did the cable break inside the cab? If so, get a pair of pliers on the wire cable inside the housing and give it a tug, you may also want someone to bounce the hood up and own while you do that to help release some tension on the cable and hood lock.

 

Dude, chump is right, that is about the best u can do. That '87 Ram in my opinion is the best u can get. That old truck will run forever. TTYL...R.V.

 

Thanks, but the cable broke loose from the lever under the hood.

 

look behind the grille from under the bumper and see if you can reach the latch. You should be able to trip the latch if you can reach it.

 

I used a long thin screwdriver to push the lever where the cable attaches on a friend's neighbor's truck. Worked fine. At that point you could either swap the hood latch from an older truck (grill release instead of in-cab) or put a new cable in.
