I believe it is on the firewall. U should invest in a manual on that truck. Any auto parts store will have one under $15.00. Well worth it.....R.V.

The ignition module or computer is on the drivers side inner fender.
Here is a link to my 82 and some of the stuff I've done to my truck. www.cardomain.com/ride/658846 . Also if you want info on your slant there is also www.slantsix.com and www.slantsix.org

I had the ignition module give out in my truck a few weeks back, and it just died while I was driving. That was fun! But at least I was in town at the time.

You can find most Haynes repair manuals on eBay for less than half the regular cost. I've gotten the last two I needed for between $5 - $8, versus around $20 for the same book at the auto parts store.

Mine last died right as I was approaching the offramp for a rest area, so I coasted into the parking lot and called for a tow truck (roadside assistance baby!). Hour and a half later I was at my folks' place with a dead truck, but at 9pm on a sunday night what are you going to do? Had it fixed early the next morning though, and I carry a spare now.
I've actually got a pile of spares for long trips... cap, rotor, oil, coolant, ecm, coil, etc.
