Default charging issues

Hi everybody, IM new to the board.I have a 1982 d150 2wd short box, I have been having issues with the black wire that runs from alternator through the wire harness back to the battery.on top of the left inner fender the black wire goes into a three way plug before going to the battery.before that plug the wire has been so hot it melted apart. I'm pulling my hair out because I can't find any shorts in the system and all connections look fine.my next option is to find a donor truck for a different wire harness. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx

Run a 6 or 4 gauge wire direct from alternator to battery (+) or starter hot terminal with an inline maxi fuse.
