I am having a very similar problem with my 95, the backlight comes on, but no display, and won't play anything.

I have tried 3 different radios in my truck, none work.
It seems I have constant power, appropriate key-on power, but the radio still doesn't work.

I still have no idea why it isn't.

Do you have it connected to the 12V battery wire AND 12V ignition wire?Is the truck wiring harness for the radio the factory harness?I have a '91 W-150 and had same problem, but it works now.

The backlight power is separate from the actual power the radio uses.

thinking the radio is junk, pulled dash apart and tested with meter and I have power to the radio. once from the backlight and once from the key, yet the radio doesn't work. going to look for a replacement. anyone know if a later model radio will fit?
