Thanks I did that and after a break I found the bolt that was in the way. It came right off.
The head is cracked in cylinder 3.
The two open cylinders 2-3 are smooth and I have no reason to suspect the other two aren't good as well. I think a pic of the top of the block uploaded.
Now I have to figure out what a junkyard head will cost to make sure its good compared to the $395 ready to install rebuilt.
I'm leery losing the rod bearings when I reinstall.

I had the head into the shop and they said it was bad. They showed me the crack where it failed. I ordered a rebuilt ready to install. I have to get my radiator checked and try to find some new head bolts for less than $8.59 each. No one but the dealer seems to have them for the 2.0L.

I saw a video on filling/bleeding coolant and this lead me to think the over heat was probably caused by me not checking the coolant after the initial refill when I did the timing belt and water pump. Still I want to be sure the radiator is good enough to keep using.

I have most of the parts and am waiting for the rebuilt head to arrive today. I am only missing the 4 New intake bolts. I am putting in new studs and the 4 new intake bolts on both manifolds as well as new head bolts. If I can press the cam seal myself it should be running by noon tomorrow if it shows up this afternoon.

Updating
I'm at a standstill of sorts due to weather and parts. I am waiting for a radiator. I still have to install the intake manifold. I got/installed a used heater to replace the rusted out old one with the frozen water valve. I should have it all ready this weekend for the radiator due monday.

Got it running. It went very well. It only took 1 gallon to fill the radiator and another half gallon when it warmed up. Is that about right? Seems low even for a 2.0L. How do I fully drain the whole motor to get rid of the old coolant? I would like it to be full of clean coolant to protect the new radiator.

I ended up running the motor until it was hot then with it running I drained the rad several times until I got pretty clear water out of it then I added the full strength coolant.
It runs ok, its hard to start when I leave it sitting for a while.
