what am i forgetting
Gonna tear into the engine in my truck this week, it's a 360 4bbl baically it runs great it just seems to **** oil from everywhere so I'm gonna do one of them gasket only type rebuilds. got a new timing chain to go in too and an egr valve and water pump. gonna do the intake gasket, the seal on the distributer, the timing cover gasket the valve covers and the oilpan.... debating doing the rear main seal I'll see if it looks like its leaking. anyone think of anything I'm overlooking? seems like this shouldn't be too bad of a job but who knows with my luck. any helpful hints?
Thank's Keatonkolor your right i didn't do that, i had the seal, but by the time i got everything torn apart down to the oilpan, and realized that taking it off would mean taking the header's off i decided to wait on the that. I did change the front seal on the oilpan though... and even put in a new distributer to go along with the other things i listed.
All in all i found it much more work to tear down and put back together a dodge engine than it is to do a chevy, but it's all back together and running good and none of the gaskets i changed are leaking so thats a positive... and i even learned some new tricks.

Odds are you can live with a small amount of oil from the rear main seal. The secret is knowing how far to go
There is a limit to how far I will go before just pulling the engine and doing everything.
Gee I thought small block fords were the easiest to work on. I never had a MoPar before but I really like my '85.

I've never worked on a smallblock ford, so maybe they are easier... the motors i am most familiar with are the first gen smallblock chevrolet's this is my first mopar as well and although i have had it for years this is the first time I've really torn into the engine
