Is 440 driveline auto or stick?
For right now I would just install the 440 driveline using the parts necessary from the link i provide.
Then down the road if you want to do for OD trany there are options. tho pricey.
Here is the adapter for Big block to 518 adapter From PATC
#56XXX. Chrysler Big Block (361, 383, 400, 413, 426, 440) to Dodge Small Block 518 transmission. This is the adapter everybody is looking for. 6 bolt crank Cost $689.00, 8 bolt crank Cost $730.00

Here is how you control the OD and TCC lockup http://www.transmissioncenter.net/SwapInformation.htm
Here is an adapter to use NV4500 trans http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lak-15335

I know I am.
Im currently in the project of putting a 68 Jeepster Commando body on a 91 Dakota chassis. 4x4 with a fuel injected 318/auto of course.

Sure could but the 203 would give him grief. Unless he locked his hubs year round for everywhere he went.
Then it would make his 88 just like the 79. Full time all the time. Only choice would be 4 hi, 4 hi lock, Neutral, 4 low, 4 low lock.

They may still sell the part time kit somewhere.
Then he could get part time. Have to install a 90 degree elbow in the fill hole and about 2-3 inches of pipe so he can over fill the 203 so he can lube the upper bearings and gears.
As stock the chain splashes the oil around and lubes them.
With out the extra fluid you will cook your 203.

But that adapter you found would greatly help him keep his transmission and t-case he has.
Perfect score right there.

I am looking at just dropping the entire drivetrain in my truck. I havent taken a close enough look to even know what trans is in it yet. It will be at least then end of the summer before I can save up the money to even buy it. Times are hard for the self employed. And that Jeepster sounds awesome.

I am seriously considering the idea of a part time conversion for the 203, assuming this all happens. I cant afford to try and save up for that adapter. And full time 4wd doesnt sound that fun. And I cant afford to have the trans torn down and the tailshafts swapped. I wish there was an adapter to just bolt my 241 to the big block trans. But I am always on a tight budget, and I want to get this truck back on the road so I can use it for a work truck. So if I have to it will be full time for a little while. We will just have to see.
