The rag joint is a weak link in all our Gen.1 Dodges. I fixed MINE, with a Borgeson steering gearbox and HD steering shaft... but then mine's a lifted 4x4. I think there is a fix that eliminates the rag joint, but someone who knows it will hafta chime in.

borgeson makes a steering shaft that will logically install from rag joint at firewall area to spline at steering box input. I ordered one for my 89 d100. from summit .direct contact to borgeson off my data sheets etc. is [www.borgeson.com] 860 482 8283.this part is designed with a universal joint not oem dodge slipjoint and is tighter than oem slipjoint. may need new rag joint when installing .I also found sloppy lower steering linkage links to tie rods etc. got at autozone about 55 .00 summit charged me 200 .05 with ship charge.looks like borgeson is torring ton connecticut

Mine was loose at the steering linkage right at the center link. I had a friend turn the steering wheel for me to see where the slop was and that joint moved about 1/2" before the wheels started to move. So i just replaced everything from wheel to wheel. I did not touch the steering box or steering shaft. Worked for me but i have a 2wd as well.
