Default Transmission Swap?

Does anyone know if I can put a 2nd gen tranny into a first gen pickup. It'll be going from a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 to a Dodge Pickup 4x4 3/4 ton 1985. Both of the pickups are automatic.

The only 2nd gen tranny that will work is from 94-95.
Like yours they are hydraulic governor.
96 and later have electronic computer controlled governor.
Governor helps tranny determine when to shift, in case you didn't know.
And this is only if you have a small block in your truck.
Big block will need expensive adapter plate.

You will also need to move back the transfer case and need new drive shafts made. The second gen has overdrive and it is longer than the 727. Not sure if it will mate up exactly to your existing t case.
