NP435 hard to shift at times
1985 D250 318 and the NP435 trans filled with 80/90W gear lube.
The clutch is adjusted properly but at odd times and not temperature related, I have a very hard time getting the trans into 3rd from 2nd.
It acts like something it physically locking the gear out but after 2 to 5 tries (and losing a lot of speed ... not good in traffic!) it usually goes in.
After driving for a while the problem seems to go away.
The odometer agrees with pedal wear for about 200,000 miles on the trans although it may have been replaced by a previous owner as the truck does have a utility bed and far too often employees treat a truck poorly since it belongs to the boss and not them.
Any suggestions on what to check/fix

:i con_question:
A rebuilt trans is currently financially impossible.
