I have a 90 dodge ram w-250 with the 241 transfer case. Today when I shifted to 4x4 hi it didnt seem to engage so I put in neutral and went 4 low it spun the tires then made a loud bang.
Put it back in 4 hi it seemed fine. However when I got back home put it in 4hi again and it seemed to skip maybe back tires were spinning but seems like it grabbed then disengaged the reengaged. Once I got it on level ground it seemed fine. shifted from 2h to 4h to 4L back to 2h seems fine.

Was thinking maybe the chain is skipping?
