Default drums to discs

Has anyone here changed their rear drum brakes to disc brakes themselves? Where do I find the parts and how do you do it? LOL sorry... newbie.
Wondering how difficult and expensive this will be. I don't have any experience with drum brakes so I'm just going off of what everyone is telling me... that I don't want drums.
What do yall think? Do you have drums and like them? Which will be cheaper and less hassle in the long run?
What models can I just pull a rear end out of and throw under mine without a lot of cussing? (I know there will be cussing, lots of it, but how can we minimize?)

I have a 1983 D150 short bed step side.

Why don't you want drums in the rear? Personally, I see no advantage to swapping the rear brakes over to discs unless you're planning on doing a lot of towing or a lot of hauling heavy weights in the bed. Most of the stopping power comes from your front brakes anyway, so you don't really have to worry about fade from normal driving. For what you're likely to spend (and the hassle of swapping over) I don't think you'll see enough benefit for it to be worth it, if you're just building a weekend cruiser that'll take the occasional trip down the drag strip.

Ok thanks!
It will be my daily driver to every now and then take down the strip, but I think I'll just leave it and see how I like it or dont and evaluate later. The kits for other vehicles are $500-700 and like I said, Ive just been told I don't want them, I don't know myself.

In my personal experience drums are plenty of brake for the rear, unless you're doing a lot of heavy-duty usage. I mean, my summer DD is a '69 D100 and it has drums all the way around, without power assist, and it stops just fine.

I think wilwood makes a kit but then again it's $$$. I would just stick with the drums. If you want more stopping power look into better pads/shoes.
