Default 1988 D150 AC Upgrade

Hey, I have a 1988 D150 I'm swapping a 2017 hemi into. I'd like to be able to retain the factory AC. Can I use the modern compressor and hook it up to the factory evaporate core, or do I need to retrofit a newer style core in?

My concern being that the factory core is meant for R12, I think the 2017 uses R-134a, so is there a conversion kit?

you may be best to contact a a/c shop but i really don't think it should be an issue. pretty sure it all works the same. the only issue you might have it is just needing to have is custom made hoses to connect new to old but usually a/c shops have the tools to do stuff like that.

If you can use as much stuff from the 134 system as possible. The problem is when you convert the oil from the R12 system stays in the components and is not compatible with the 134. So you need to remove as much of it as possible before converting. The receiver/dryer should be replaced any time the system is opened up so get a new one. You will have to add pag oil before the 134 freon because that's what is used with the 134 system. If done right you should have no issues. You may want to start a thread of the hemi swap itself, People like these swaps!

I'm pretty sure I can use everything and leave just the factory evaporator.

Once I get started on it I'll post up a thread. Currently I'm working on the road away from home so I'm just ordering parts at this point. The hemi and a freshly built 545rfe are sitting in my shop waiting.
