1981 D150 Fuel Gauge Issue

Ground it near the fuel float. The power goes through it and a resistor is attached to a lever that floats on the fuel. I would unhook the wire at the gauge and make sure it's insulated from the body. Then check the other end of the wire with an ohm meter. If there's continuity, you have a short. If not, you may have a bad ground. This will work 90-95% of the time.
