I recently picked up an 86 W150, slant 6, 4 speed. The previous owner had stripped the harness out of the engine bay so I found one on eBay out of an 88 360 truck. Everything appears to hook up and function for the most part. The alternator connection appears to be slightly different.
Question 1: Does the plastic molded “connector” just hold the wires in place or does it serve another function?
Question 2: Do the two field wires connect to the alternator case? Or do they need to actually connect to something?
not many great pics online and from what I can tell they changed things between 86 and 88 any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
the connector may be different on the 88's harness. you may have to modify it to work with the older style alternator. 2 small wires hook to the field terminal and large one goes to the large lug.
Okay the big lug for main battery feed is there. There are 3 other connections one I assume is a ground. The other two are the field wires. But on the alternator it looks like two spots marked for the field wires no terminal just looks like they connect right to the alternator housing. Does this make sense or should there be some sort of terminal they attach to.
Thank you
Thank you again for the speedy reply, yes I will most definitely have to modify the connector just making sure that I can attach my field wires right to the alternator housing since there is no terminals on the 86’ alternator just two blind holes marked field.
