Default 87 D150 Brake Booster

I have a chance to get an 87 D150 (w/318) that belonged to my grandfather. The truck will be free to me, but to get it drive-able enough to make it to my house I need to find a new power brake booster.

I've been scouring the internet for a new/re-manufactured booster and have had zero luck.

Most websites are saying I need this part and claim it is specific to the 86-87 model years, they are also all out of stock and say the part is discontinued: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...sn=598&jsn=598

I used some salvage websites to look up parts interchangeability and that said I could use any booster from model years 84-93 and it should fit.

I can find brake boosters for the 90-93 model years quite easily, doe anyone know if these years would work? Would I also need to get a master cylinder from the same model year range? Or do I need to keep searching for this unicorn of a part?

Thanks,
Jared

you should be able to drive it without the booster working. you just have to drive a bit more cautiously since you won't have power brake and have to press the peddle a lot harder to make it stop. master cylinder lists being the same from 79-93 so i would assume brake booster should be the same. only thing i think i have come accross changing is the hole/fitting on the brake booster. that may be the reason it was a 2 year only part.

thanks for the reply, are the fittings interchangeable? As in being able to take the fitting off the old booster and put it on the new one? I’ve not had any reason to fool with a brake booster before.

the fitting that the vacuum line connects to. i think the new vacuum boosts come with a new fitting so it shouldn't be an issue.
