Default D150 - 318 (manual) - SHORT Throw conversion?

Hello,

I just posted a reply on a thread on body lift, and that got me to having a question myself

Years ago I decided on a 3.5" lift on a 2WD because I was about to build 3 PCS LPG gas tanks.

Also it looked nicer (personal thinking).

I got to 98% of the build and it worked out great, but...since the cab has been lifted, the plastic base arround the shifter
obviously can't take the larger 'swing' of the shifter arm.

I own the truck more than 20 years and every now and then working on some mod's like a flipfront and such.
But since the body lift, that plastic base just moves up and down because I can't fix it. After some time your getting used to
that bouncing item as well... but now I replied on a posting, I was figuring how you solved that?

Is there a way of working arround that? Guess there won't be some type of after market item available.
I was considering a short throw shifter but don't seem to find one of the shelf (not from CORE shifters so it seems).

My shifter (and linkages) seem to have had their best days now. Would love to hear your experiences to get rid of that
large play on the shifter). You know of any suppliers that can supply a solution on that or some substituting part?

I waited a little on finishing as I was making up my mind around taking out the A833 gearbox and swapping with a 5 spd since
it was high on RPM and the overdrive is wayyy to long in the OD when 35" tires are mounted (logical).

To reduce the RPM on the highway I decided to mount a differential from a diesel which turned out realy well.
This idea actually worked out very well towards "overriding the overdrive challenge". (25mph in 1th gear, 50mph in 2th and easily over 75mph in 3th )
So I rebuild that nice A833 because it gave me greatttt years towing my gear and stuff arround the country.

I would like to know though (when the time comes to do a conversion) what would be the way to go? I like to do something
else when the present config. breaks down someday. A later 5 spd behind a 318 perhaps? (for example a 1993 or so?)

The one reasson is for trailer driving, which brings more convenience with more gears. Apart from that I like it a lot as it is...

For members thinking about trying this: you need at high speed sufficient OIL pressure, and with this configuration (in OD) you
drive up the oil temperature to much at high speed and low RPM (in a small block with unsufficient HP) -to consider-

Its is a simple work arround... if you don't need the top speed...but like more of that lower rumbling from your pistons every corner!

Looking forward to your idea's
Paul
