Default Return line to Gas Tank/other?

My '83 W250 has issues starting in the heat and am pretty convinced that a vapor separator style gas filter will do the trick. These filters have a third nipple to route fuel back to the tank eliminating gas boiling and of course excess cranking - has anyone done this and if so, did you route fuel line to tank and where did you tie in? I need to lay under the tank area to see if I can find an obvious routing line to tie into-thanks

By the late 70's, that was normal. Someone may have done away with the third hose and gone cheap on filters in the past. Look for a hose plugged off near the tank. You may have the fitting and just need the hose. Something else you can do, but it's more trouble, is hook an electric fuel pump in line. This will pressurize the fuel line and compress vapor bubbles. our on engine pump can't pull the bubbles through the but the electric will push them in for a soft sort of farting in the carburetor. You run out of fuel in the bowl with vapor lock and this will stop that. I'd look for the return hose on the filter though. There should be a sticker with the vacuum hoses somewhere under the hood and it may have the return line.

I see 3 hard lines exiting tank on passenger side and noted near fuel filter that there is a hard line (from tank) that also connects up to upper vapor emissions canister on passenger side inner fender well - a good place to "T" into? I could also "T" into tank overflow tube -any thoughts here? I see no provision for a factory return on my '83 w250-big thanks again!

You don't want to hook into the vapor canister. That will cause all sorts of problems. What do you mean by the over flow hose? That may be where the old line went to the tank.

by over flow, I am referencing the tube under the fuel filler cap ( it is above the large fill hose that connects fuel inlet to tank)that allows over filled tank gas to return to tank
