Default 1986 ram 150 electical problem please help PLEASE

hello i have a 1986 dodge ram 150 and i recently changed the alternator and voltage regulator and it charged fine because before that it wasnt charging. then a week or 2 lator i went out there tuned it over it turned over then stopped nothing will work mabey once and a while the radio will come on then you toch the key move it it will shut off agian the only ecetrical thing that work is when the door is open and the key is in off position it buzzez. i tryed changing the battery and the ground cable nothing please help.

Could be a number of things.

If you have a tilt steering column look near the bottom end of the column and you will see the ignition switch and the 2 connectors that attach to it. These like to melt and cause strange problems.

Do the headlights come on?

You may have also blown a fusible link on the drivers side fender. These are special wires that melt when there is a major short in the system.

no it is not tilt sterring the head light do not come on and is the fusible wire the wire that goes on the starter relay [solinoid]. if not were is this specail wire.

That's the one - mine blew over the summer when my Dad wired the electric choke wrong. If it blows, take it to a good automitive wiring shop - it's almost impossible to find a new link and is just as hard to fix, espically when you don't know what's shorting it out.

I have a dodge ram 150 1986 the head lughts just quit. Fuse is good all other lights work where do I start and work my way through

next time you should start your own thread so people don't get confused.

if your headlights are not working then it is most likely the dimmer switch on the floor.
