Default Engine/transmission match up

Will any big block (383, 400, 440) engine bolt up to any 727 transmission? I might replace the 440 in my W150. Does it matter if the engine came out of a car?

Not any 727.... But the ones behind a 383, 400, 440 will swap between each other.

Iirc, one of the displacements uses a balance weight on the torque converter and the others do not.

Aw yes. A small block would be different.

Does anyone know anything about this balance weight?

Thanks u2.

440s with forged cranks were internally balanced, except for those performance and motorhome engines with the heavy 6pk rods, had a bit of extra weight external. After '71 or so, cast crank 440's were externally balanced, the little weight. Just tell your vendor what you have, he will get you the proper (weight balanced) flex plate for your transmission. That's what I recall.
