Default Headers

I'm about to order myself my headers for my truck. What would be better, Long headers or short headers for a 318.

Long tubes man, you've got plenty of space (check your starter though, might need to swap out for a high torque mini starter). Shorties IMHO are only for vehicles with limited space.

Can I remove the smog pump and get away with it? I live near Raleigh, NC.

Depends on your emissions situation. If you're not in an area where they look or sniff, then yeah, you can. I'm not sure of the impact on a Cat though, since anything that the smog pump burned off will now collect in the cat to burn off.

My huge starter is darned close to, if not actually touching my headers. If I need to change the starter, I have to unbolt my headers. That's what I mean about the mini starter. The smaller "high torque" type starters have a lot more clearance and they will slip by the headers to replace if needed.

I am just about to do this exact same thing with my 82 ram 360. I am glad yall brought this up so i know to pit in the starter before the hedders. I just replaced the starter on my friends 75 camaro with a 350 and hedders, what a pain in the ***... Luckily i am military and have access to a garage with a lift. Other wise that would have been just about impossible. Stupid camaro...

I make fun of him a lot because i am always the one coming to rescue him when that pos breaks down. Now i have even more reason to make fun of him because his mommy and daddy bought him a friggin lancer. They gave him $10000 to pay off his camaro and to buy the lancer... Kids these days... They will never learn the true meaning of hard work and rewards for that work...
