You get under there and unbolt the spare. No real tricks.

I paint alum wheels when they get rough. Maybe not the finish youre after though.

I was thinking about light sanding the wheels then maybe a shot of blue paint. The caps cleaned up nice....the wheels im afraid are shot..

If they're aluminum I would take them to a big rig detailer and have them polished out. But that's just my opinion. Steel wool definitely did no favors for them also if they're aluminum. Might have taken the scale grime off but definitely will come back worse

No twisty bar to lower the tire. Thats a '94+ thing for dodge.

I redid the gf's alum jeep wheels by sanding them smooth first, then graphite metallic paint, and clearcoat. Lasted 5 years anyway.

If it' like the ones from the 80's, you just twist the large threaded retainer by hand. It's a pain to get down which is why the redesign added a light winch underneath. A word to the wise, while you are at home and it's warm and dry, remove and replace the threaded doohicky. (<------fancy technical term) Then, when it's raining and you DO need to get it out, it will come out easy, sort of.

Aren't those wheels clear coated from the factory? I have a set of the optional factory wheels from around that year that are basically nos but got battery acid on them and it ate away at the clear coat.

ok finally quit raining and it dried out enough that i could get under the back of the truck it indeed has a twist off type nut thingy to remove the spare tire. might gunna have to scrap that and put something more simpler in there. That looked to be a pain in the rear to get that spare out..
