Default 86 D100 225 Emissions Crap!

I just purchased an 86 D100 Ram for $800

The Exhaust was Shot!!
Took it straight to the exhaust shop, had new exhaust front to back including 1 cat!

The 225 runs great, other than the Intake to exhaust gasket!
I currently have the Manifolds off the truck!

Before I did this I took it to an inspection Place;I am In Texas.
They put it on the dyno,it passed the High Rev part of the test, but Failed the low idle part!

This truck does NOT have the "Lean Burn"system
Not sure if it ever had it or not,But nothing is missing from the air cleaner housing!

All the smog pump, mini ox converter and components have been removed!

Here's the questions:

Once I get the Manifolds repaired and back on the truck, will this Intake/Exhaust leak fix make it blow cleaner on the Low Idle test???

Will I have to put the smog pump and all related components back on the truck to get it to pass???

Sorry for the Loooong post!!
Thanx in advance for your reply's!

Where I live (NC), it has to be on the engine, even though is does not need to pass an emissions test.

It's federal law that you can't remove it, not just NC.

The smog pump alone should get you passing the sniffer. I failed my sniffer test the first time in my Ram because I forgot to hook the smog pump belts back up (oops). Obviously there was no visual inspection. I barely failed, but when I hooked it up I passed with flying colors.

I would put the smog pump back on, go do your test with fresh oil and if your plugs/wires are old I'd replace them too for better burn, then pull the pump belt afterwards if you're concerned with it robbing performance.

Thanks for the replies,BUT,The problem is the Mini Ox converter that the smog pump hooks to,the metal line that comes off the rear of the head is missing,it hooks to the other side of the Also missing smog pump!

No-one knows where to find purchase a mini ox converter.

Is there another way around this??

Other than Finding the 2nd converter, finding a smog pump, brackets, bolts, and the tube for the head??

Post your fail/pass numbers from the smog shop so we can see a better picture. Without going through the pump and tube replacements I would try this. You may also have a carburetor that is running rich at idle.

Replace/Check
1.Run a can of SeaFoam through the gas tank/engine. Get from NAPA.
2.Thermostat must be correct temperature one.
3.Air filter-do this right before you go to have your test.
4.Plugs, Cap and rotor, wires and maybe coil..you want a hot spark!
5.Change oil and filter. Diluted oil will cause high emissions. do this right before you go to have your test.
6.Make sure the air cleaner is allowing fresh air into the carb, some air cleaners have vacuum actuated flappers in the snorkel, these can fail and stay closed causing rich mixture.
7.Replace the PCV valve, maybe hose and rubber grommet.
8.Check your timing.
9.EGR valve if equipped must be operating correctly at idle.

Thats a few suggestions to keep you busy. Now for the exhaust...
Walker may still make the mini-ox pipe asm under their part#53331 or NAPA EXH53331. They are not cheap by any means at about $250 you'll have to shop around.
Also try www.rockauto.com for exhaust parts cheap.

Thanx for the info Chump!!!

Had to order a new exhaust manifold,as I noticed mine was Warped which snapped the #1 bolt @ the head!

Got the bolt out,re-tapped,now waiting for the rain to pass so I can Paint and install the new manifold!
