Default 35" tires and cut fenders - how many?

How many of you have cut your fenders to help clear bigger tires? I've got a 5" lift but it's not enough to be able to turn while articulated, so I finally took a cutoff wheel and angle grinder to my fenders to solve the problem, but now there's a gap between the inner fender and the fender itself. What has everyone done to fix that?
