Decyphering Cast Codes...
Alright BurningROM lets see you work your magic...
I cant find the VIN on the engine block (despite the help of CHILTONS) but I did find the casting numbers...
Drivers Side Block "4337530-31823"
Passanger Side Block "9.24.90"
There are misc. yellow marker numbers on the valve covers, and some other parts which mean they are junkyard parts. The fan shreod is also obviously from another vehicle (doesnt fit around radiator and is ziptied), and the heater-stack is one the passanger side (denoting possibly being from a van?). My kickdown linkage from the throttle is also disconnected, but where is would mount on the tranny lever is already mounted to another linkage elsewere in the undercariage.
Figure that out...
:-)
Thanks.

Were you reading your block codes clearly enough? The 90 block code should be 4387350
9-24-90 is the casting date
The numbers cast into your heads should either be 4323302 or 53005714.

That third digit is in fact an 8. And it would appear that the motor is original based on the date cast into the block. It's hard to tell though...they could've gotten another motor out of another '90 and put it in..if it's been replaced.
A good way to get an idea as to whether or not the motor is original is to check the bolts that connect the transmission to the motor. Check the heads of the bolts for wear (other than rust)...wear that would come from putting a wrench on them.
