1986 D150 questions...
I have a 1986 D150 4x2 318 Single BBL Holly. I have noticed in the drivers side fender there is a computer box with an air tube going to it from the air intake tube. This truck is not FI, so what does that computer do? I found out my truck had a 2BBL on it orginally, so to put one back on, would I need to change the intake? Would I gain anything from a 160 degree stat? and lastly, when I start it, and it doesn't start on the first try, I can here the starter kinda like turn down and stop a few sec. latter, is this normal? Every dodge I'v heard has done this.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Can you post or email a picture of the air tube and computer that you're talking about? I, ahem, don't have any of that stuff anymore so I'd need to see it to know what to say.
Are you sure it's a holley 1-bbl on there? That doesn't even sound possible.
You would gain a headache from going to a 160 t-stat. You want to run about 180, especially if you live in a northern area where temps are mild/cold.
Starter wind down sounds normal to me.

Now that's some weird **** right there. Air tube? I have NO idea what that's all about. My 86 didn't have anything like it when I bought it. As far as the carb goes... ???
I'd pick up a OEM iron 4bbl manifold (because they're dirt cheap) and a holley 500 and toss it together.

The dude with the tube is your Spark Control Computer.
Use at least a 180 stat or better yet use a 195. Emissions controls and the spark computer work off a properly heated engine.
The carb appears to have part number 4324629 on it. That is a Holly 2280 2bbl.

ok, but i have no cat on the truck right now, so would i be better to just remove the smog pump now too? and the tube going to the spark controller computer, is that a air temp sensor thing, or just a way to cool that computer so it won't overheat?
