Default My Tranny

I just drove to the store and my truck ran fine, ****ed great and everything. Except for a small rattling, that sounded like it was coming from behind me. On the way back, it didn't want to shift into second at all, it just revved and stood at 35mph. Can anyone help me?

something's amuck.

what's the truck/tranny?

Perhaps the kickdown or shifter linkage is out of whack? Otherwise it sounds like bad internal stuff.

It's a 1992 Dodge D150 with the 5.2L TBI V8. I hope it's only the linkage i my tranny's not going out.

yeah, I think it might need a new transmission, but the guy I bought it off of just supposedly rebuilt it and he owns a tranny shop.

I'd call the guy you bought it from. See what all he did. If it wasn't driven much between him rebuilding it and you buying it then something could have worked loose, or perhaps something wasn't tightened all the way. At any rate, it might be an easy fix for him.

My tranny went out at about 250k, but that's because I hauled ~20k worth of dirt in the bed in 3 loads, one of the loads I hooked up an equipment trailer and towed the front end loader back to the rental place as well, for a gross combined weight in the neighborhood of 18k for that trip, far more than the vehicle was rated for.
