Default parts from 360 to 318....

I have a 1986 D150 318 Auto 2BBL carb stock minus the cats.... My friend has a 1978 Dodge Powerwagon 360 4x4 auto 3/4 ton. Will the oil pan work on my truck? And would the distributer from his truck work for converting it from the lean computer junk my truck has? Is there anything else interchangible?

Thanks.

The 318 and 360 are the same block. I would think so, but the best way to find out is to call the local parts store a ask for part numbers. Find out if the oil pan have the same part number for the 318 abd 360 , and the same with all the parts you do. Or summit racing, get on there web site and match part numbers. I think the distributer is the same for 273-360.

No, the oil pans are NOT interchangeable. The blocks are SIMILAR, not the same. The 360 has larger crank bearings and the cutout section on the oilpan is larger on the 360 versions to clear them.

The stuff that can be swapped - intake manifold, heads*, exhaust manifolds/headers, and pretty much all of the accessories, including the distributor. The block and oilpan are different though, as are the related parts in the rebuild kits. The flywheel/torque converters are not interchangeable either, as the 360 is externally balanced via weights on them, whereas the 318 is internally balanced.

The reason I wouldn't swap the heads is that the port volume is much greater in the 360 heads and you may end up losing power down low due to poor velocity, and unless you're spinning upwards of 6000rpm the gains are minimal.

I forgot about the crack being bigger. I was thinking the oil pan didn't fit because the had diff. part numbers, but all the bolt on's have the same part numbers from 273-360.

Yeah pretty much everything swaps back and forth except the items encasing the crank bearings. The torque converter and flywheel you can get weight sets for that you just have to weld on in specific spots to use a 318 version on a 360, but it's best I think to get one that's balanced from the factory for the 360.

but the 360 intake manifold seems to be lacking some ports and sensors that the 318 manifold has on it. How do you work around this if you want to swap them?

You're talking about the MPFI Magnum intakes. You'll have much better luck in the 2nd gen forum with Magnum questions, as the LA and Magnum engines have quite a few differences. I've got a Magnum 360 in my Dakota but I don't know what to tell you about missing ports.
