Default Ditching EGR system

If I wanted to get rid of my EGR system how would I do it? Would not having it cause me to fail emissions or lose engine power? Has anyone attempted this before? I have a 5.2L 318 MPFI Engine

The ECM is programmed to expect inert gasses in the cyl when in light load situations, and by defeating or removing the EGR you no longer have this, so you'll run lean.
