A few 1985 350 questions.
I recently bought this truck out of a feild. The previous owner didn't know a lot about it.
I was wondering how I could find out the engine size. (castings on the block?)
Also I would like to know the rear end ratio but I don't know where to look.
It has a lot of power and gets about 4 mpg so I assume its a 360 with a 4:10 but I would like to know for sure.
Another thing is it barely holds oil preasure, not like my other '85 which always holds good preasure. I am still using the stock psi gauge and I don't think it accurate, can I put a mechanical gauge on it?
Sorry for the long post. I would just like to get this truck going.

You could decode the VIN to figure out what engine it came with, but that doesn't always tell you what's in it. If it's a small block then the distributor will be between the firewall and carb, and on the driver's side towards the back just under the head there should be a casting that shows displacement. If the distributor is up front, then it's a big block probably swapped in.
I get 9-11mpg in my 86 lifted 4x4 with the 360 and 4.10s, so there's something wrong if you're only getting 4.
As for ring and pinion ratio, there should be a tag bolted to the diff cover. If not, then you'll have to mark the driveshaft and jack the rear end up and count revolutions - driveshaft/tire.

if you scrape off just under the drivers side head on the front on the block its stamped there if small block on a bigblock its on the left side by the dist. on a little 1 or 2 X 1 or 2" square pad that has the displacement...also on the Drivers? if not drivers passenger side its casted on the side of the block...also the title says 350 question i'm guessing thats a typo?? i'll get pics of the locations if needed
