Default 4 Speed Tranny Done...Can It be Switched With a 3 Speed???

I Have a 1990 Ram 150, 318. It has the automatic 4 speed (overdrive) tranny (518) and it is done, (blown 2nd gear.) I have a 3 speed tranny (727), that i got from a buddy and i was wondering whether the 3 speed will work in my truck, and if it will bolt right up? If anyone knows anything about this I would greatly appreciate the input. Thx.

It should bolt right up, I'm not sure if there are any computer controls that would be an issue, but I don't see why there would be. You might try searching ramchargercentral.com, those guys do a lot more power wagon and first gen ram tech talk than this place.

in 90 it was hyd. controlled tranny with lock up..the 727 will mate and not be a problem except gas milage...i've put a 518 in an older truck with out problems. it shouldn't bother the computer.

Alright, thanx for the input. The 727 will be going in this weekend...Hopefully. As much as i hate to see my gas mileage go down even more, i really want my truck back, so it will do at least for now. Thx again for the input.
