Default SureGrip

I got an '84 D-150, last winter I pulled the motor and tranny and dropped a 440 6-pack out of a cuda. Some problems aroused, but were dealt with properly. Now the long term troubles are coming up, like the rear end. I know in newer dodges the rear ends on the Dakota RT has 3.91 gears, is there a possible swap for my rear end with SureGrip? The motor has too much power for the one-wheel-wonder under my bed. Is there any old hot rod rear ends that would work? Thanks for any replies!

I wouldn't suggest using a dakota rear end, I believe they're several inches narrower than the rams. In all honesty I'd probably look for a dana 60 out of a 3/4 ton and chuck a detroit locker or some other high end limited slip or locker in it. 440 can throw a lot of power at that rear end, and your truck isn't exactly light. The 9 1/4 out of a 1/2 ton might work fine, but then again you might grenade it. I prefer overkill.

a dakota rear will NOT hold up to the power of a 440...i've had 2 rearends go out of a dakota one was in my 92 4X4 with the 318 the other was in my dads 2wd 318...theres alot more tq in the 440...you could throw a good 8 3\4 in it or a D60. i've got a 83\4 in mine but i haven't got it going yet..
