Default I have reverse but no forward gears

I hope i am on the right Generation of Rams. I have a '75 dodge D100. 318, 4x4, auto. It is just a farm truck that rarely sees blacktop. A while back we drove it to the back field and shut it off to load fire wood into it. After setting for a half hour or soo, we started it back up and had no forwards gears. We tried shifting it into 4x4 hi and low with no change. Had to drive backwards all the way to the house then unloaded. The fliud seems fine. Right level, color, and good smell. Does ne one have ne suggestions. THe problem puzzles me because reverse is strong, but no 1st gear.

try adjusting the bands other than that i'd say your tranny is toast.

Found metal shavings in the pan. Cleaned the shavings out and slapped it back together and it goes strong again. Makes sense because when hte tranny is in reverse the fluild is flowing the opposite direction and not forcing the shavings to one area and stopping fluid travel.

Couldn't be bands because low and reverse use the same band.
