Default Ramcharger -> Ram Truck Spindles

Hey all, here's my dilemma... one of the lower control arms on my '84 150 pickup shortbed got bent (don't ask), in the process blew out the bearings on that wheel. I contacted a buddy of mine who works at a junkyard for replacement parts and advice. He said he recommended for sake of easier replacement to get the whole assembly, upper and lower arms, spindle, rotor, caliper, and that bar that comes out from the lower arm and attaches to the frame in front that I can't remember the name of right now. $100. I get the pieces, they're used but look good, bushings look OK too.

Anyway, I finally get enough time last weekend to rub a few hours together and spend it removing the old assembly and putting on the replacement parts. Not too bad, took a few hours but I got it all on fine. Bled the brakes, attempted to put the wheel on... ARG the wheel won't fit on the rotor, wrong lug spacing. I called my buddy again and he said the computer said that the parts, which came from an '85 Ramcharger, should all be the same, including the rotor, and he's not sure why it's different. Obviously the computer's wrong about the rotor.

My question is, if I get a regular rotor for an '84 Ram will it fit on the Ramcharger spindle?? If I just replace the bearings on my old rotor do you think it'll be OK? I'm worried the races got damaged when the bearings blew.

Thanks!

JP

your wheel should fit on there. your truck should have a 5 on 5 lug pattern. and the ram charger should too.

what year was the ram charger you got it off of? cause in the 70's they had a 5 on 4.5 lug pattern. thats the only thing I can think of.

I would just measure the bolt pattern on both of the rotors and go from there.

He said it was an '84 or '85 Ramcharger. The one I installed is the larger lug pattern for sure. I just need to know if the truck rotor will work on the Ramcharger spindle. I'll probably just spend the $15 today and get a rotor from a local junkyard and see what happens.

Thanks,
JP

84 had a 5 on 4 1/2" and 85 had a 5 on 5 1/2" bolt circles

Save your money - it won't fit. The spindles and rotors are different between the older 5x4.5 and the newer 5x5.5 bolt patterns.
