Default Dana 44 Front End in 84 1 Ton?

Hi guys, just bought an 84 W350 1 Ton 4x4. It supposedly has a Dana 44 front end with disc brakes and 8 lugs. The guy who sold it to me was told by everyone who called before me that you couldn't get a 44 front in a 1 ton - I thought the same thing. The only thing I can think of is the base model W350 4x4 - the one with the smallest engine (360 / Auto) came with a 44 front with 60 outers, similar to many light duty 3/4 77-79 Fords.

Supporting this theory is the fact that it does not have lockout hubs. Can any of you guys help? I have no reason to think it was swapped out - the guy has had it since 1993 and used as a farm truck, it says "350" on the side and on the title. Also it has a "standard duty" TorqueFlite. Is this a "rare" light duty 1 ton? Also I believe the tag said the front end was a 3300 lb capacity unit.
