Putting MyGig in my car
Does anybody know if you can put Mygig in a car that has the standard radio from dodge...Was wondering because I just got a deal on a Mygig Radio for my Avenger...Paid $90.00 from a friend of my brother.... Doesn't have Nav on it though. If anyone knows how to pull the dash apart to remove and replace the radio, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx....
Thanx....
Chances are the basic radio functions will work if you plugged in the mygig into your car.. I'm not sure if the CAN bus wires are wired in to the basic radio but I would imagine they would be..
You probably wont have the plugs for the back seat video (Not a big deal), and the Uconnect plug will probably not be there either so those features will not work..
You will also need an antenna for satellite radio and navigation.. I have no clue ifAvengers with basic radios installeduse the same antenna as Avengers with Mygig installedand if the antenna leads aretherebut if they're there you willbe able to tell which ones are whichafter you're in there because they are color coded and very distinct. If you don't havethe existing leadsyou will need to buy and run theantenna and leads to the radio if you want to useNavigation and satellite radio.
Front ConsoleDisassembly:
Note: The only item that has screws holding it in is the radio itself. Everything else pops off by pulling on it.
1) Pull up on the silver trimbezel that goes around your shifter. There are step fasteners on all 4 sides and the trim bezel will come off semi easily if you pull on one side then work the opposite side until the whole bezel pops off.
2) Pop off theblack rubber tray (The indented rubber base where you put your stuff) you can pull up on the edge closest to you and the rest will pop off if you pull it up.
3) Remove thelarge plastic piece that goes around your shifter and up the sides of the radio. This part is kind of cool the way it comes off... Just pull on it straight back (towards the back of your car) and the whole piece pops off easily.. you don't need to mess with the 2 side pieces that run up the side.. Just pull back on the base (the part just in front of your shifter)and the whole unit will pop off neatly.
4) Remove the control panel/radio bezel. This part always makes me nervous because I am always afraid I'm going to break it because it requires more force than the rest of the pieces to remove.. but place your fingers in the very last vent hole of each of the 2 vents. (Don't pull on a vent slat but on the solid plastic under the last vent slat) I place 4 fingers of each hand in each vent hole and pull back towards the back of your car. it takes some force but it will pop off.. if only one side pops out then just work the other side and don't pull on the side that has already been released. After the 2 top fasteners have popped free, you can give a light tug on the lower area of the panel to release the bottom fasteners.. these 2 should be easy to remove. Chances are now the vents themselves will be stuck in there so all you need to do is gently and slightly bend the panel inwards to free the vents.. then pull the panel out.
5) Disconnect the 3 plugs connected to the control panel, Climate control plug, Button plug, and lighter plug. now the panel is free and you can place it in a safe place so it wont get scratched.
6) Radio removal: The radio uses 4 torx (Size T-20) screws to hold it in place, unscrew them and then the radio will slide out easily.
You should be able to just unplug your old radio and plug the new radio right in.. hopefully you will have the antenna leads for nav and satellite.. they just plug in and lock in place.
Everything else would be done in reverse.
Reassembly note: The Button plug can fit in an empty socket in the climate control socket area.. it doesn't belong there.. plug it in the bottom socket.
If this is confusingI will provide pictures to help you out, I'm sure I didn't use the correct part names in a lot of areas but the order is correct and I have removed this stuff 6 times now so the info should be relatively accurate..
