Default Add A Shock Sensor Alarm to Your Car for Under $20

I was kind of disappointed to find out that the stock alarm system in the 08 Avenger didnt have a shock sensor and it would be nice to know if someone hit my car while its parked or is trying to steal the carwithout someone gaining entry first.. (Typical methods of gaining entry are using a dent puller on your lock, or smashing your window which will trigger this system)...

So I decided to adda shock sensorto the car.. I had an alarm system left over from my last car but I didn't want to install an entire alarm system as the car already hascore alarmfeatures and I don't want to carry another fob around with me.. I just wanted the shock sensor part.. So I cut the wires off of the shock sensor and wired them to a relay and then to the old alarm siren.. I hooked everything up inside my house and wired it to a 12 Volt power supply to test it and the system works perfectly so I decided to share it with you all in case you would like to add a shock sensor as well.

The way I currently have it wired, the system will work as an independent system and will not effect your current alarm or other electronics. The only thing I haven't worked out yet is which positive wire to connect it to which will need to become live after the car's alarm has armed. After I install the system and figure out which wire that is I will append it to this guide.

Items needed for this project:

Automotive Relay

504D Stinger Double Guard Shock Sensor
http://www.audio-discounters.com/504d.html

Optional: Single Pole Single Throw12 Volt switch (Normal 2 post switch)

Approximately 25 feet of 24 Gauge wire or any lower gauge (Length will depend on your mounting locations)

4 Female Spade Terminals ( http://www.wiringproducts.com/conten...d=39385.008333)

Electrical Tape or Butt Splice Connectors

The Shock Sensor has 4 wires.. Red, Black, Green, and Blue. The red and black wires are positive and negative power supply, and the Green and blue short out when a shock is detected.

The relay has 5 spade terminals but only 4 are needed. Each terminal is assigned a number for identification.

Wiring Instructions:
1.) Connect the Blue wire from the shock sensor to the Relay (Terminal # 86)
2.) Connect a positive wire that is live when the alarm is armed to Relay post numbers 30 and 35 and connect the same wire to the red wire of the shock sensor. You can place a switch within this positive wireto turn the shock system on and off. (Alternatively you can just turn the system onbefore you get out of the car using a switch so you can just use any live wire when the car is turned off)
3.)Ground one end of the ground wire to the chassis, the - terminal of the battery, or a negative wire in thecar and connect the other end to the black and green wires of the shock sensor. If you plan on using a siren instead of the car horn then you can also connect a negative wire to the black and green wires of the shock sensor and run it out under the hood to the negative terminal of the alarm otherwise you shouldn't need a ground wire for the existing horn as it is already grounded.
4.) Connect a wire from the# 87 terminal of the relay out to the positive wire of the Siren or horn. There is a rubber plug under the driver side of the firewall just to the left of the steering column that you can use to snake a wire out into the engine compartment. Just make a small hole in the plug and slide the wire through.
5.) Adjust the shock sensor by using a small phillips head screwdriver and test the system.

That should beit.. the system should be fully set up and ready to go..

I know all that wiring talk is confusing so I created a diagram to help visualize what all that junk means

lol thanks for the compliment.. I especiallygot a kick out of it because everyone calls me MacGyver at work..

I plan on modding/changing/adding a lot of stuff in the future so you should be seeing more stuff from me soon.. My problem is I cant keep up with all my ideas I have for the car and it takes longer to do them than think of them

I just bought a heat gun so you should be hearing lots of cool melted plastic stories after it arrives

Thanks again for the props.. I really appreciate it..

Nice work. Sounds like a very worth while updrade. I never knew it didn't have a shock sensor, that's just terrible.

I still havnt gotten around to installing this in my car so I will still need to locate a live wire that is live when the car's alarm is active..

Also, so you know how this system performs, When the shock sensor is triggered the horn or alarm (Depending on what you hooked it up to) will sound for2-3 seconds then turn off.. the system will not set off the alarm for more than 2-3 seconds if the car is impacted hard as the original alarm system was designed to do. (The triggering of the main alarm function is within the main alarm box which was not used in this project) but 2-3 secondsshould beenough to keep people away and alert you to an impact.

I always found it annoying when the fullalarm triggered when a car with a lot of bass or loud muffler passed my car anyway then I had to turn the alarm off.. so maybe thisfeature lossis a good thing

Glad you guys like the idea though
