RT AWD 3.5L Loud Lifter/Valve noise on startup
I have an 08 RT/AWD 3.5L....
Which I still love.....
I have about 11k miles. I just noticed it a few weeks ago. Since I am usually either in the car, or remote start this condition could have existed to a long time.
I did see the previous post about this, but it was quite old. So I thought the subject might be worth a re-visit....
Anyone experiece the loud lifter/valve issue. thoughts, ideas? BTW, I use synthetic oil if that makes a difference..
I actually had a laudry list:
1. Loud valve/lifter on start for 10-20 seconds.
Dealer heard noise(I left car overnight!), called Chryslertold is normal for <40F. I informed that my garage was 60f when I heard the noise. They didn't seem concerned. At which point I responded, that I was not happy with the answer and would be contacting Chrysler myself and wanted to be sure my complaint andtheir answerwas documented. I can't see where this is normal or good...
2. Recall gas tank straps
Replaced
3. Recall door latch(this was from the second recall, 1st didn't apply)
Repaired/Replaced
4. Noise from steering on left turns
Dealer said fluid low.
5. Suspension noise on passenger rear of car.
Something to do with anti-sway bars bushings. Needed replacement.
6. Shifting, both hard, and strange downshifts especially 2/1. I also complained about down shifts from 6-5-4 at highway speeds when coasting.
Dealer stated didn't happen and hard shifts are normal!
7. Loose sound insulation in driver fender.
Repaired
8.Rotate tires
9.Oil change- Synthetic oil. Changed over at first oil change. I change at 5k intervals now.

I got back from the dealer yesterday to have my 1st time scheduled maintenance.. While I was there I told them about the noisy lifters on start up.. And they told me.. (You're gonna love this) "That is normal.. Don't worry about it"
I'm sorry but that's not normal.. Also I requested that they put Mobil 1 in the car and they refused saying that it will just make my car run slower and that their regular oil is better..
Ever get the feeling you are dealing with lazy idiots? I was feeling that on my trip to the dealer..

Additionally the "lifters" in the 3.5L are more commonly referred to as hydraulic lash adjusters. It's semantics I know but, in my experience most dealer mechanics think all customers are morons. You say the word "lifter" and they pretty much label you a back-yard mechanic that is only slightly less clueless then every other customer. All that said, If your noise doesn't disappear or the sound changes with rpm the first thing I would do is check your oil level. Over-filling even slightly can cause noise due to aeration. If your levels are good, and the noise is lasting longer then a minute or two, or is continuous and varies with engine rpm then I would go back to the dealer an state exactly that as neither of thoseare normal.
