Out of curiosity, where did you get this Stage 1 chip and how much did it run? Are they specific between the R/T, SXT, and SE model or a universal chip?
I bought the chip from Autoanything.com
http://www.autoanything.com/performa...;from_search=1

Use the drop down list to select your vehicle and engine type..

For the 2008 Dodge Avenger (Actually all vehicles) they are based off of Enginetype and not a specific car model.
So you can choose between a Stage 1 or Stage 2 chip for the 2.7 Literor 3.5 Liter.

I paid $227.95 for a Stage 1 chip (The Jet Modules are currently on sale at Autoanything.com) for a 3.5 Liter2008 Dodge Avenger R/T but list prices are as follows
2008 Dodge Avenger 3.5 and 2.7 Liter
Stage 1 = $239.95
Stage 2 = $247.95

damn, dude, I get better than6-10 mpg in my 8.0L V10 Viper, even when I'm driving it hard.
Yeah, I know my gas mileage is pathetic.. I am consistently late for work so I am always driving as fast as traffic allows which I know is most of why the mileage is so bad with jackrabbit starts, and decelerating quickly, but even so I drove the same way in my 1997 Dodge Avenger that had a V6 andmy mileage was so much better in that car.. So I don't know what the deal is with this one..

Ok, maybe I won't be purchasing one. Looks like they don't carry a chip for the V4 2.4L SE engine.
I didn't even notice that they didn't offer the chip for 2.4L.. That sucks.
I tried looking at the http://www.jetchip.com/site to see if it is offered at all and if its just that Autoanything doesnt carry the 2.4L chips but they are doing maintenance to the site now..

Hopefully no one has any issues with their Jet Module because Jet's tech support is notoriously horrible specifically when sending emails.. I wrote them on 4different occasionsand only received 1 reply and I have heard of multiple others not receiving replies..

I think they are being selective though and only answering actual tech issues and not general questions. I read on their site a while back that they can build custom chips that will remove the rev limiter so Iinquired about purchasing a custom one reguardless of price.. Never heard an answer after multiple email requests so I just went with the retail one.

I reset the MPG gauge and did a City MPG test with the Jet Module installed on the way home from work tonight.. I drove as slow and fuel conscious as possible and had a lot of people passing me.. The best I could do was 22.6 MPG but that is taking into consideration that there was very few cars on the road and I rolled through about 2 stop lights.

I would slowly gain speed to 50 then coast to 30 then repeated the process, avoided hitting the brakes through turns and tried to avoid accelerating if I saw that I would have to stop up ahead.. Aside of that i didn't use any special driving techniques.

There are about 26 stop lights on my way home and my average speed was 36. The roads travelled were single lane suburb roads3/4 of the way and 2 lane roads 1/4 of the way.

I can't really say what optimal MPG I was getting before as I never drove the car this carefully since I have owned it but I guess you can use that number as a comparison to what you get.. I will try to remember and try a more realistic test on my way to work with normal traffic conditionsas even though I had to stop for lights, the lack of cars on the road really helped andI could drive any way I wanted most of the time with traffic lights being the only factor that made it different from Highway driving.

I mentioned the Jet Chip to a co-worker who likes to tinker with mods. He didn't have any positive things to say about it. He claims the only thing the Jet Chip does is to alter the IAT reading and the car's computer does the rest. He muchprefers Superchips.

I've never tried either one, so I couldn't speak frompersonal experience.

You're right about the Jet Chip tech support - their email reply people seem rather lazy.

Excellent, thanks for the guide. I was considering getting a Jet chip for my car, and I think I might go ahead and do it. All I need to do is figure out how to put high flow exhaust on without voiding the warranty...

Well had the Jet chip installed for a month now... Time for a disturbing update..

I was driving home from work yesterday and I had my Electronic Throttle Control light come on, 1/4 engine power, and the carbegan shaking violently because the throttle was flipping full on and off every 1 to 1/2 second.. Then the check engine light comes on about 5 minutes laterand the throttle gets stuck full open which I wasn't really expecting even though I should have seen that coming due to all the lights and violent car shaking.. good thing I was already in motion and not at a light with a car in front of me otherwise I would have had a reallybad accident... I turned off the engine then put the car in neutral and stopped the car at the side of the road... Put it in park, then started it again and the stuck throttle went awayso I continued to drive home after checking thethrottle again.

I had no clue whatwas causing the issue but knowing that I was going to have to bring the car to the dealer I decided to remove the Jet chip.. It turns out that the Jet chip fried out and melted the plastic inside so that a small blob of plastic oozed out the side and solidified on the chip case.. I put theplugs back to their stock position, reattached the negative battery terminal and the car runs fine now.. no lights or any issues..

This may have been an isolated issue where the chip burned out on its own but that's some dangerous side effects when a Jet chip dies. I am just guessing here but based off of the very generalized instructions that came with the Jet chip I am wondering if they actually did that much testing for the 2008 Dodge avenger chip because it looks like they just used a general one that was designed for another Dodgevehicle and said "eh looks good" and shipped them without thorough testing.. Could have just been a bad chip on my end but I just wanted to make everyone aware of what can happen when good chips go bad..

Also if you see a light on your dash light up that looks like this )z( (The z is actually a lightning bolt) that's your Electronic Throttle Control and if you have a Jet chip thenthe chip ismost likely your problem.. So drive very cautiously when you see that light...When I saw that light come onI had no idea what the hell that was.. I was trying to look through the manual out of the glove box when the full throttle lockupkicked in.. After I pulled over I found out what that light meant.. Would have been nice to know what that was before hand lol

It figures I threw out all the packaging for the Jet chip.. But I am going to see if I can get it replaced anyway.. Driving without the chip isn't that big of a difference so I am wondering if I should just leave it out and save myself the aggravation.

EEEEEEEK!

Thats all I have to say for now!

Oh and of course, thank god you were not in an accident. I had a vehicle once when I was a young dumb driver and the throttle cable got knotted and frayed.

I rode the ebrake and the parking brake home, cause I had no idea what to do, when I tried to turn the vehicle off it over-revved and sounded like I would blow the engine unless I drove. Wouldnt let me go below 80 without the brakes on.. I could get it to stop with both held.

Knowing what I know now, I was a tool

End of story... have a good night! ;p

Yikes! That's not good...I might re-think buying one of those chips. I was hoping to find ways to boost my performance with a chip, but from what I've heard I'll give it more time to see what other companies come out with. The Avenger's still pretty new on the market after all, so not a lot of performance stuff's out yet, especially for us AWD owners.

The reason the car pauses before a shift is the the engine controller pulls the power back durring the shift to save the transmission. You can only hit that trans so hard then stuff breaks.
