Default Help with proper Trailer Hitch electrical for 3.5L

Hello,

Enjoying my new 2010 RT and now it's time to get a hitch so I can tow a little weight around. Those 50 -75 buck delivery charges add up over time. Best to be able to get it home yourself.

SO!

I've been calling around to get prices on hitches. The manual states that I can tow about 3,000lb with a 300LB tongue weight. That's more then what I need but I'm going with a hitch that can do that anyway (class 2 was it?). I have quotes that are around the same price, which is $249 for the hitch.

The reason for this post, is that I was in my local "RustCheck" store (yes it's actually a chain of rust proofing stores in Ontario, and I swear by it) and they had the same price for a hitch just as others. However they were looking in this catalogue and it warned that I should get something called a "Modulite" which is to prevent "Mismatch errors" which COULD cause the air bags to deply because they will go off due to a drop in voltage, when the lights of the trailer go off.

IS THIS TRUE? No other place, including the dealer has mentioned this to me.

In addition to the above, I would appreciate any one elses experiences with putting at hitch on your 2008+ Avenger model.

Mine:

The local dealer had the Avenger listed as requiring a 7way wiring harness, however the parts person knew from memory that this was incorrect, that it should be a 5way. That threw me for a loop because I wasn't even thinking about wiring as of yet but that's a good point because none of my inquiries to companies about a hitch included much talk of wiring except for the RustCheck people... what has everyone else done? wired yourself? easy? what about that Modulite thing mentioned above? Wired into existing brake wires, or directly from battery?

Thanks in advance for anything. Want to do it right the first time

Default Any suggestions?

Hello,

I'm looking for any comments from people who have had a hitch put on their Avenger. Anything you wish was done differently? How did the wiring look and did you do it yourself or did the shop do it? What were your costs all in?

Thanks, any information will help.
