09 Avenger trans problem, no codes

Today my Avenger began shifting poorly and now is in limp mode and the CEL is on all the time. I tried the key to get codes and it gives - - - - - - - for about 10 seconds and then "done". Can anyone give me some direction? I am certain that someone else has had this problem.
