Default Dodge Avenger - Stuck in park...

And before I get the "use the search" notice, I have. This is a little different than the issues I've seen.

2008 Dodge Avenger, 2.7, automatic

This is my in-laws vehicle. They got stranded on Sunday and I went to check it out. Noticed the shifter was stuck in park. After some digging around I found that the shifter cable came off the shift linkage at the transmission itself (didn't fail on the interior side as normal). The car only has about 75k miles on it.

Anyone had or heard of this happening on other Avengers? I just popped the cable end back on the shift arm and everything is working fine. The cable end where it attaches to the transmission shifter arm feels secure and can see no reason why it came off.

Same thing happened in mine. There is a recall on a part in the shifter.

jessicacrystal,

Correct, a recall was applied to some 2008 Avengers in relation to the inability to move the shift lever out of park.

@rodslinger, in order to determine if your in-law's Avenger was affected by this recall, you may investigate the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN#) through our corporate website:
