Default Alternator and fuel injectors

2008 Dodge Avenger, rarely gives me any trouble. Heres her story:
Replaced the coils and spark plugs a year ago.
Replaced mounts a couple years back.
Fixed the alignment, rotors, and tires a month ago.
Noticed my car shaking while driving the other day. Turns out its the fuel injectors.
Yesterday, I take it out and I hear a screeching sound (like a bad belt) and the engine begins to smoke. Tow truck guy seems to think its the alternator. I am so incredibly broke that I can't have it even looked at until my next paycheck. After that, I need to figure out the cheapest option for me.
Has this happened to any of you?
What do you think my best course of action is?

Take the alternator to an auto parts store and have it tested.

Okay, assuming you can still drive the car and no Battery Light on the dash or other lights such as Check Engine Light (CEL) then, I would take it to the nearest Auto Parts Store and allow them to check your entire Charging System and Battery, now that you are at it. Might as well have them check everything!

If you find that the Alternator is charging then, that screeching might be from the Alternator's Decoupling Pully!

If you can work on your own car (Assuming) then, check out this Video that shows how to just change out this Pully and saves you $$$ from purchasing another complete Alternator. (Fast forward to 8:05 Time Hack)
