Got the winch installed today
Well worked on it for couple hrs hardest part was soldering connections(no way to crimp on without a big crip tool so just filled it with solder) but its all ready to go and only takes 30 sec to put on my truck. Ended up spending just under 90.00 for cradel, wiring and connectors. Didnt really have anything heavy to test it out on so I thought this old fence post will do just to see if it works.
HD Quick connectors(impossible to crimp without a machine)

Of coarse while waiting for the solder to set up I always get distracted and do stuff like this to kill time lol
(1995 grand cherokee larado 4.0 l6 216,900 on it no rust on it anywhere)

Now its time to put the lift on this and get new tires on. Lift should be on this weekend.

Yeah lol its alright for being on stock suspension. Never thought I could climb up that tree but 4lo got it done.
Sweet!!! Gotta love the simplicity of mounting it up.
It is a good Idea not to run the cable around it self, even on small/ test loads. One it can choke a tree or pipe or whatever you got it on. The other thing is even on work it is easy to make the individual cables come apart. A strap/ Chain will be best.
If you havn't read it this is a great read on winching. http://www.warn.com/corporate/images...US.readers.pdf

An easy way to crimp it is use a hammer and a punch on top and bottom. Just make a good dimple.
I gotta get those quick connectors. If I need the winch on the rear I ran the wires and put a bolt at the end to bolt up the original wire. Then a simple bolt on ground on the frame rail. But the quick disconnects would be perfect to swap it front to back.

You can buy the twist type cable connectors at any welding supply shop. A little big and bulky, but no need for soldering or crimping.
You just cut the marked, tapered end for the appropriate size wire (6 gauge thru 2/0), strip about a half inch of the insulation off the end, shove it in the hole you cut and tighten the screw to hold it firmly in place.
I paid $9.95 per set (need two obviously) for the portable mount on my Grand Cherokee.
Just insert the male end into the female end and a half twist and they are LOCKED!!!
