I agree with Thunder. It's really easy to check/replace the bulbs in the cluster, if you haven't done it before. I just replaced my missing CEL and another bulb last week ($4.66 from the dealer, for two including the plastic lock-in's).

Ya just have to pull off the dash bezel, unscrew the four screws holding in the cluster. To make it easier to work with, you can also unscrew the one screw for the gear selector indicator so you can pull the cluster completely out but I didn't bother - it was easy enough for me to get to where the bulbs lock in.

Hope it's just a bulb!

before you go and take apart your dash i would check the switch on the top of the transfer case. i have a 2000 that i just bought and the light didnt come on either. for me it was a $30 switch at Advanced auto Parts. it was easy to find because it was the only electronic thing going to my transfer case. to check to see if it is the switch, i unpluged the wiring harness from the switch and then turned the to truck on with out starting it and then took a piece of wire and connected the two pins in the harness plug and have someone see if the light turns on on the dash. if it does then the switch is bad if it doesnt then the bulb needs to be replaced. IMO replacing the switch is easier then pulling the dash all apart. but, i have done both so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

For me it was on the drivers side of the transfer case on the top so i assume it would be in the same place for you because we both have 2000s. the part is called a 4WD indicator lamp switch.http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...RPSESWAMS_____

this is the link for it at advanced auto parts, which is where i bought mine. i approached the truck from the drives side to get to the switch.
good luck and sorry for the late reply.
