Default headers on 4x

hi all, new here. i have a 98 dakota 4x4 5.2 mag.i'm sure i have a cracked exhaust manifold and am thinking on headers for a permanent fix.planning on 2 cats and 2 mufflers turned down before the gas tank. will this cause any emissions problems for testing? anyone done this? all my 'toys in the past had headers with mufflers bolted right to the header flanges, but that was before this emissions crap.

You'll want a crossover pipe, and if it was me I wouldn't have my exhaust exit right next to/in front of my gas tank.

never used a cross over pipe. whats it supposed to do?
i don't mean right beside the gas tank, i mean well before the tank. not into all the bends needed to passpipes to the back, i might have to though??

I do not think that you will be able to do this. Your truck only uses one rear monitoring O2 sensor that is after the Cat.. Where would you put it if you are using a true 2 Cat. dual exaust? If you put it on one Cat. then it might not read propely b/c it is only reading the emmisions of 4 cylinders (I am not 100% on that) but if you did mount it on one side you would have no reason to put a cat on the other side other htan to keep the two sides backpressure equal. Now if you used 1 large cat as a crossover pipe it might work ( a crossover pipe is a "X" shaped exhaust pipe used to merge dual exhausts) just use to "Y" pipes to join the Cat. ( >--CAT-O2sen.-< )

Rear o2 isnt' all that important, it just tells the ECU that the cat is working.

If you're just dumping the exhaust as soon as you can then a cross over pipe isn't probably going to help.

Here's the thing - low RPM exhaust gas scavenging doesn't work with really short pipes, and you're going to lose power down low because of it. High RPM power will be better though.
