Default rear end swap

Dug into my differential in the fall...was getting alot of whine..
had the pinion bearing changed....
but the housing was a little gouged..
repair has lasted till now...whine is coming back...
want to swap out the entire rear end with a donated one...
mines a 8.25 10 bolt with 3.55 gears...open diff
would like to upgrade to lim slip...
are they available in the 8.25 or does it have to be 9.25...
would it mount right up to my axle..no mods..
should i be looking for an r/t or durango...would a 4x4 rear end work...
any thoughts..?

i think only the 9.25 had limited slip. you could get another 8.25 and put a locker or an auburn liimited slip differential in it.

There's another thread talking about this - ring gear size has nothing to do with what ratio or type of differential installed. LSD was an option offered on both the 8.25 and the 9.25 axles. The 9.25 is a stronger axle, but you may not need the extra weight and strength. I'd recommend going with the 3.92 ratio though, it'll give you a bit more pickup and make hauling loads easier. 2wd versus a 4wd axle may not matter, but I don't know. The angle of the spring perches might be different to correct pinion angles due to the 4x4 possibly being higher

I like the ratio of the 3.55...highway vs get up and go...
but my true question is whether or not the 9.25 will bolt right up...
or should I keep loking for a 8.25...
seems much easier to replace the entire rear end...
that's why I wanted to know what junked vehicle would be a match...other than a 01 dakota sport...
and with the lim slip

thx

either a 8.25 or a 9.25 will bolt right up.

Awesome...
didn't want to change drive shafts or fiddle with the
geometry or anything...
leaf springs and mounts all the same...
9.25 just beefie er...
