P0442 (M) Evap Leak Monitor Meduim Leak Detected A small leak has been detected in the evaportive sysem.. my buddy is picking up his dakota down in florida and is wondering what would cause this?.. thanks

 

do a gas cap change first, check all ur hoses smoke it if you have access to the equptment...

 

Its almost defintely the gas cap. Take it off, then put it back on and tighten it so it clicks a few times.. reset the code. If it comes back, check your hoses and stuff.

aright... well. my friend reinstaled the gas cap, and reset the code, and after the 1300 mile trip home from florida, the cel came back on, and now he noticed how the gas cap has a little play in it when he moves it back and forth.. hes goin to replace the gas cap, and he inspected the lines

 

If the gas cap still doesnt fix it, theres a bunch of things that could be wrong. Lines, charcoal canister, purge soleniod, vent soleniod... the best way to diagnose it would be with a scanner anda smoke machine.

 

o yea i know all the possible problems, plus it was solved, the line from the pressure test pump to the charcoal canister was dry rotted at the pump, 6 inches of new hose and a male-male adapter.. all good
